When it comes to reheating leftovers, I almost always turn to my air fryer. From chicken wings to pizza, it’s the best way to get a meal that tastes just as hot, crispy, and delicious as when it was first cooked.

So, you may be wondering… can you reheat steak in the air fryer? The simple answer is YES! This is my favorite way to get my leftover steak heated all the way through without it turning out tough or overdone. Best of all, it’s so easy!

Here’s what I’m going to teach you in this post:

  • How to reheat steak in the air fryer
  • Why using the air fryer works better than the oven
  • Tips for storing leftover steak
  • Ways to enjoy steak after reheating in the air fryer

For me, steak feels like a special meal. Sure, there are plenty of budget cuts available, but I always think of it as a treat. And thanks to the air fryer, I can keep indulging in that treat without sacrificing taste or texture for as long as my leftovers last!

What is the Best Way to Reheat a Steak?

Okay, I already gave this one away. But, in case I was too subtle, let me just come out and say it: the air fryer is hands down the best way to reheat a steak.

Plus, it only takes a few minutes! You don’t need to bother with heating the meat low and slow to keep it from overcooking. Instead, your leftovers will be ready in about five minutes, give or take a few depending on the thickness of the cut. How nice does that sound?

How to Reheat Steak in the Air Fryer

STEP ONE: Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees.

STEP TWO: Place your leftover steak in the air fryer and cook for 3 to 5 minutes depending on size and thickness.

A very thick steak cut may take an additional 1 to 2 minutes. The steak is done cooking when it’s warmed thoroughly and checked with a meat thermometer.

STEP THREE: Remove the reheated steak from the air fryer, let rest for 5 minutes, then enjoy!

Reheating Steak in the Air Fryer Compared to an Oven

When you heat up leftover steak in the oven, you run the risk of overcooking the meat. The only option is to try to heat it low and slow.

When done right, this method usually works, but it takes patience and a careful eye. Personally, I prefer the set-it-and-forget-it, five-minute reheating process you get with the air fryer.

For curiosity’s sake, I’ve also tried using the air fryer for the low-and-slow method to see if there was a difference. I’m happy to report that the quick reheat method turned out just as tender and flavorful… and took much less time!

How Long Can You Store Leftover Steak?

According to the USDA, when properly stored, cooked steak will stay fresh for up to four days. You want to make sure it’s kept in a shallow airtight container or plastic zipper bag in the refrigerator.

Can You Reheat Sliced Steak in the Air Fryer?

Absolutely! Just keep in mind that the thinner the slices, the faster they will reheat in the air fryer.

I recommend checking on them after about three minutes to make sure they don’t overcook.

How Long to Reheat Steak in the Air Fryer

The time it takes to reheat your leftovers is going to depend on the thickness of the cut, but around 3 to 5 minutes is usually sufficient.

I always recommend using an Instant-Read meat thermometer to make sure the center is nice and hot before pulling the steak out.

My biggest problem with leftover steak is that it always ends up over cooked and dry. Using this air fryer method, our leftover steaks came out with a nice crispy crust, and they were still juicy and pink! I will never reheat steak any other way!
