How to Make Steak Fries in the Air Fryer
STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F.
STEP TWO: Place a single layer of fries in the basket with as little overlap as possible.
STEP THREE: Cook for 7 minutes. Shake the basket, then cook for an additional 3 to 8 minutes, checking periodically.
How Long to Cook Steak Fries in the Air Fryer
Every air fryer is different, so you always want to do a little experimenting to find the perfect time. Plus, the number of fries in your basket will determine how long it takes to cook the fries to your desired crispiness.
Once you shake the basket, keep checking on the fries every few minutes. They might be done quickly, or they could take a little longer. Just keep an eye on them!
Can You Make Homemade Steak Fries in the Air Fryer?
Absolutely! Just keep in mind that when you make fries from scratch, the cooking time is going to be a little different than pre-cooked and frozen fries. I recommend checking out my air fryer french fries recipe to see how to make homemade fries.

Why Didn’t the Fries Get Crispy in the Air Fryer?
The most important part of making frozen steak fries in the air fryer is making sure they’re in a single layer and, ideally, not touching. If there’s too much overlap, the hot air won’t be able to circulate around each fry.
Next, always let the air fryer preheat before adding the fries. We want the hot air to cook them as fast as possible and evaporate any moisture. If the temperature isn’t high enough, the moisture from the frozen fries could make them soggy as they cook.
Finally, be sure to shake the basket after 7 minutes. This will help the fries cook evenly and reach their maximum crispy potential!
Do You Need Oil When Cooking Frozen Steak Fries in the Air Fryer?
No, you do not need to add any extra oil. In fact, this could make the fries turn out soggy!
Frozen foods already have oil on them. If you notice them getting dry, you could always give them a spritz, but I’ve never needed to do this.
