White button mushrooms are pretty small even when they’re whole. Because we’re working with sliced mushrooms, they won’t take very long to cook!
I find that 10 minutes is the perfect amount of time to get wonderful roasted mushrooms in the air fryer. We want them to be tender and juicy in the middle but give them enough time for those edges to get a little crispy.
The exact time is going to depend on the size of your mushrooms and the make and model of your air fryer, but 10 minutes is a good starting point. If your mushrooms seem extra big or extra small, maybe adjust the time up or down by a minute or so.
What to serve with Air Fried Mushrooms
- Air Fryer Pork Tenderloin
- Air Fryer Ribeye Steak
- Baked Split Chicken Breast
- Ninja Foodi Pot Roast
- Air Fryer Lamb Chops
- Slow Cooker London Broil
Tips for making the best Air Fryer Mushrooms
- Slice the white button mushrooms in half vertically so all the pieces are relatively the same size. You don’t want to separate the mushroom caps from the stems or the pieces won’t cook at the same rate.
- Shake the basket at least once during the cooking time to help the mushrooms cook evenly on all sides and get those amazing crispy edges.
- Prefer to use oyster mushrooms instead? They’re similar in color, texture, and shape and have a slightly more complex flavor that makes for a fun twist.
- Want to add a little more flavor? Try adding a tablespoon of soy sauce to the sliced mushrooms before cooking them.
- Sprinkle fresh parsley over the roasted mushrooms before serving to add a pop of color.
How to store this Air Fryer Mushrooms Recipe
To store air fried mushrooms, first let them cool to room temperature. Place them in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
I recommend reheating mushrooms in the air fryer for a few minutes to maintain their crispy texture before serving!
Mushrooms in Air Fryer FAQs
You can certainly air fry mushrooms without oil. The mushrooms naturally release moisture which helps them to cook.
I prefer coating them in melted butter to enhance the flavor, help the seasonings stick, and get that amazing crispy exterior.
You should always wash store-bought mushrooms before cooking. Just give them a quick rinse under cold water or gently wipe them with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt or debris.
Make sure you clean them right before cooking so they don’t absorb too much water.
