How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
STEP ONE: Preheat air fryer to 370 degrees.
STEP TWO: Mix the chicken strips, bell pepper, red onion, oil, chili powder, cumin, lime juice, salt and pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using) in a bowl.
STEP THREE: Put the chicken fajitas in the air fryer and air fry for 10-13 minutes, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F at its thickest point.
STEP FOUR: Remove the fajitas from the air fryer and enjoy with tortillas or on its own.
TIPS For the Best Flavorful Chicken Fajitas
- Pull the fajitas from the air fryer as soon as the chicken hits 165 degrees F at its thickest point to get juicy chicken — use an instant read thermometer to easily achieve this
- Warm the flour tortillas or corn tortillas in the air fryer by placing them in aluminum foil and cooking at 370 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes
- Use fresh raw boneless skinless chicken breasts or boneless skinless chicken thighs for the best results
- Cook the air fryer fajitas in a single layer to allow them to cook evenly
- Use a ziplock bag to add ingredients to and shake up to avoid an extra bowl at clean up
- Top the air fried fajitas with fresh cilantro for a pop of color and flavor

Variations to Chicken Fajitas
- Swap out the chicken strips for beef steak, rotisserie chicken, pork, or even more veggies
- Use frozen chicken in place of raw chicken — such as Tyson Fajita Chicken Strips
- Use a store-bought fajita seasoning mix instead of creating your own — I like this fajita spice mix, Old El Paso’s fajita blend, and even switching it out for taco seasoning

I never considered fajitas in the air fryer. Genius! Can’t wait to try this!
It’s crazy all the things you can make in an air fryer, Becky! Everything ends up being a “sheetpan” meal, but all cooked in the air fryer!
I have air fryer that is 400 degrees can’t change it. So how long do I cook my chicken
Hi Karen, is that the Black and Decker one? Unfortunately, the ones that don’t change temperature don’t accurately work as an air fryer as most things cook under 400 degrees. Cooking foods too high can cause them to burn on the outside and still be raw on the inside. I recommend searching the site for foods that cook at 400 degrees — a lot of frozen foods will work great!
Halfway check temp. Thickest piece of chicken you want it at 165°.
Made this tonight and it was absolutely delicious! We really enjoyed it, thank you.
Can I use frozen veggies and frozen chicken strips? If so, do I need to cook them longer or change anything in the recipe?
Hi Kim, since the frozen foods are already cooked, you’ll actually find they take less time to cook. I would put everything in at once and check them after about 5 to 6 minutes, checking the internal temperature of the chicken and pulling them out once the chicken is heated through.
Hi, how long do you preheat your air fryer? Thank you.
Hi Kris, air frying preheating time can vary on the air fryer size and the temperature you need. For 370 degrees, I preheated my air fryer for about 3-4 minutes using a 5.8QT air frye. Here is a guide on preheating that should help: https://www.everydayfamilycooking.com/how-to-preheat-air-fryer/
