My way to make air fryer hard boiled eggs so you get a perfectly cooked egg every time. Even my daughter says they taste better than on the stove!
The Best Air Fryer Boiled Eggs Recipe
I love to stretch my air fryer to its limits and since ovens can hard boil eggs, I figured I would test air frying hard boiled eggs to see how they would turn out. And I’m glad I did because they actually taste better than boiling them!
It’s truly the only way I make hard boiled eggs in the house anymore. I tried boiling them on the stove for Easter one year and my daughter complained they tasted watery. It’s funny because she eats up the ones I make in the air fryer without complaints every time.
I don’t mind it either because it’s actually faster than waiting for the water on the stove to boil and then covering them to let them cook. I also can’t tell you how many times I overcooked those because I didn’t realize the water boiled.
These air fryer ones are easy to set and forget until the timer beeps! That’s my kind of cooking with the kids constantly distracting me.
And, if you love air fryer eggs, try my soft boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, egg bites, and poached eggs.
Can you Hard Boil Eggs in an Air Fryer?
Yes! I actually prefer cooking hard boiled eggs this way because it’s faster and they taste better. I also don’t need to keep an eye on the water boiling. I just set the timer and come back when they’re done!
How to Hard Boil Eggs in the Air Fryer
STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer to 270 degrees F (130 degrees Celsius).Â
STEP TWO: Place the cold large eggs in the air fryer basket or tray, preferably on a wire rack. I have cooked the eggs without a rack, but find it helps the eggs from moving to avoid cracks.
STEP THREE: Air fry the eggs for 15-17 minutes. Immediately place them in a bowl full of cold water and ice cubes until cool, at least 5 minutes.
Peel the eggs and top with salt and pepper and enjoy!
Air Fryer Eggs Tips
- Use an air fryer rack to prevent your eggs from cracking. I find using one will help the eggs stay in place. I’ve cooked them without it, but it’s great for peace of mind!
- Use older eggs for easy peeling.I like to use mine when they’re set to expire in a week to use them all up.
- Use an ice bath as soon as they are done cooking! This will prevent your eggs from continuing to cook after you’ve removed them from the air fryer.
- Cook 1 to 2 minutes longer for a stiffer egg yolk.
- Cook about 5 minutes less for jammy eggs or soft boiled eggs.
- Air fry in a single layer for even cooking. Cooking them stacked on each other can also cause them to crack. If you need to cook more, air fry them in batches.
How to use Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs
My kids love to eat them for breakfast or as a snack with just a little salt or everything but the bagel seasoning, but I love to add them to my pea salad or a Buddha bowl when I’m not using them for deviled eggs.
I also love a good hard boiled egg for breakfast alongside my air fryer bacon, some hash browns made in the air fryer, or even avocado toast.. And, of course, leftovers are perfect for my favorite egg salad or potato salad.
How to store Hard Boiled Eggs
Store any unpeeled hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator for up to one week. If they’re peeled, I store them in an airtight container in some water and replace the water every day to keep them fresh.
Air Fryer Hard Boiled eggs FAQs
Will Eggs Explode in the Air Fryer?
No! Boiling eggs in the air fryer will not cause them to explode, just as they can cook in the oven fine. Just keep the temperature low and look for cracks before air frying them.
How Long Does It Take to Hard Boil Eggs in the Air Fryer?
The eggs will hard boil in just 15-17 minutes. I find a soft boiled egg takes 10 minutes while a firmer yolk takes about 17 to 20 minutes.Â
Can I Make Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs Ahead of Time?
Yes! I actually recommend making them a day or so before you want to use them so they’re cooled and easy to peel. This makes it incredibly easy to put into my weekly meal prep. I add the eggs to make egg salad sandwiches or just as a snack in my kids’ lunches.
What Are the Brown Spots on My Air Fryer Boiled eggs?
Brown spots on the eggs just means that you haven’t cleaned the heating coils in your air fryer in a while. I’ve been guilty of it too and it doesn’t ruin the eggs as it just washes off. I have a good guide on cleaning your air fryer here.
Why are my air fryer hard-boiled eggs so hard to peel?
I find that using older eggs makes them much easier to peel. If I need to use newer eggs, I let them sit in the ice water longer and even in the fridge for at least a few hours. Colder eggs peel easier than warm ones.
Can you overcook eggs in the air fryer?
Yes, overcooked eggs become rubbery and the egg yolks will start to turn green along the outsides. It’s super important to put the eggs in an ice water bath as soon as they’re done to stop the cooking process.
How to Cook Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs at 300 degrees
If your air fryer does not go down to 270 degrees F, you can cook your eggs in the air fryer at 300 degrees F and cook for about 12 to 13 minutes (150 degrees Celcius).

What a mess, waste of 4 eggs! The egg whites and yellow were runny. Not doing that again!
I’m sorry they didn’t work for you, Elaine. I make hard-boiled eggs in the air fryer using this method all the time and others have had success as well.
Did you fully preheat the air fryer prior to placing the eggs in there?
Hi. I have a Power XL Vortex Pro. I know how to preheat but how do I know when it’s preheated. My book that came with it doesn’t say. Also I saw a video on FB saying he turns his upside down to clean the top on the inside. Is that ok? Can you help me with these questions? Thanks
Hi Dail, great questions. I recommend using this chart for air fryer preheating times and temperatures. Since it’s a larger air fryer, use the upper times listed depending on what temperature you need: https://www.everydayfamilycooking.com/how-to-preheat-air-fryer/
And yes, for cleaning, you should be able to turn the air fryer upside when cooled and not plugged in to clean it. You can see how I clean the coils of mine here: https://www.everydayfamilycooking.com/how-to-clean-air-fryer/
How long and temp for one dozen eggs at once?
Hi Deb, the time and temp will stay the same for one dozen eggs, but please make sure there is space between each egg to ensure even cooking.
I made them too. Some recipes say preheat and some say set to 270 and put the eggs in. Which is it? Mine were cooked perfectly at the yolks but they were nearly impossible to peel. Just very frustrating. Glad I only made 4 for trying it out.
Hi Brenda, I have always preheated my air fryer to make the hard-boiled eggs. I make these on the regular and the eggs peel perfectly. Older and cold eggs will peel the best.
Should the eggs be at room temp?
Hi Susan, I always air fry the eggs straight from the fridge.
Wow! I have to admit, I was skeptical. They turned out perfect at 17 minutes. The outsides were a little browned, but the taste was great!
Isn’t it crazy how great they taste?! The brown on the eggs is actually any grease that is sitting on the fan or top of the air fryer. I recommend doing a deep clean of the top of your air fryer, but soaking the hard-boiled eggs in water will take any of the grease away.
Hi there! I tried this recipe with my brand new air fryer and got brown spots. I noticed you said it was from the air fryer being dirty. Any thoughts? The recipe was great but the spots were a bit unappetizing. Thank you!
Hi Chris, was this the absolute first thing you cooked in your air fryer? The spots should disappear when soaked in water.
Hi – I have a Ninja air fryer AF100. The temperature only goes down to 300 degrees! Have any idea what temp to use for hard boiled eggs?
Hi Donna, I would drop the timing down when cooking the hard boiled eggs at 300 degrees to about 13 minutes.
Hi Samantha, Thank you so much for all of these recipes you have shared! I just got my first air fryer and have not used it yet. I will be trying some of these recipes soon! I look forward to some more dessert recipes too!
This didn’t work for me. I have a ninja foodi digital air fryer oven. I rotated the eggs around a couple of times during the cooking process. After 15 minutes the yolk was still runny. I continued cooking an additional 4 minutes. The yolk was then perfect but the whites were scortched.
Hi Tracci, so sorry this didn’t work for you! One possible cause could be opening of the air fryer several. Each time you open the air fryer it does let some heat out and I know moving eggs around can take a good minute to do. I usually set the timer for 15 minutes and don’t touch them until I pull them out. We just made some more hard-boiled eggs yesterday and they come out perfect every time!
This is certainly not on topic, but Tracci, you are the absolute first person that has the same name spelling as I do that I have EVER come across in my 59 years!! Wow!
My new range has an air fryer in it. Will this work in my oven?
Hi Gail, yes, hard-boiled eggs, in general, will work in your oven with the air fryer, but they may need more time than these directions as an oven-range is much bigger and the air circulation can have less of an effect than a normal smaller air fryer.
Eggs straight from Fridge, preheated to 270 degrees, popped eggs in for 16 minutes, when time was up, immediately submerged them in Ice water for 5 minutes, pulled one out, peeled it, salted it, WAS PERFECT
These Turned Out PREFECT!!! Thank you
This worked perfectly for me. My yolks were firm. The white was fully cooked. Next time I may cook them for 12-13 minutes instead of 15 just for a softer yolk. But this was great!
eggs turned out perfect..i emptied two trays of ice, add water and when eggs were done after 15 minutes took them out put in ice water waited 5 minutes peeled perfect and were done all the way thru no mess at all at 270 degrees..ty love it
Love this!
what function do you use for this…so many choices. i have the Ninja Max xl
I use the air fry function.
